Energy & Water Benchmarking Reporting for Ontario Buildings
Ontario's Energy and Water Reporting and Benchmarking (EWRB) Regulation (O. Reg. 506/18) requires eligible building owners to annually report their building's energy and water consumption to the Province of Ontario.
The program is designed to improve transparency around building energy and water performance, support benchmarking, and help building owners identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
The first step toward compliance is collecting building information and submitting annual energy and water data through ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.

Who Must Comply?
Ontario EWRB applies to:
✔ Buildings 50,000 square feet (4,645 m²) or larger
✔ Commercial buildings
✔ Institutional buildings
✔ Multi-residential buildings
✔ Certain industrial and mixed-use properties
Covered building owners are required to report information including:
✔ Property type and gross floor area
✔ Operating characteristics
✔ Occupancy information
✔ Energy consumption data
✔ Water consumption data
✔ Utility meter information
